A Name You Can Count On!

Who are we?

The LinuxCabal was founded in San Francisco, California in 1996 though it can be found today in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. The purpose of the LinuxCabal is to facilitate the growth of the GNU & Linux, "Free Software", and "Open Source" communities by providing free meeting space and facilities.

We obtained our status of Asociación Civil June 17, 2009 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, México.

Commercial software has served it's purpose in providing adequate tools for today's problems and needs, however, always with the mandate of making a profit whereas the GNU & Linux, "Free Software", and "Open Source" communities are more oriented towards resolving problems and satisfying needs in a more timely fashion which is possible without the burden of always having to worry about profits.

The freedom from financial dictates in the GNU & Linux, "Free Software", and "Open Source" communities result in providing software and operating systems that are more secure, rich in features and characteristics, and sensitive to your needs and desires. New versions are written and released when a need is percieved rather than having to wait for the last version to meet it's financial quotas. Bug fixes and security issues are addressed more quickly and without the madate that you pay for a new version as is often the case with commercial software.

The GNU & Linux, "Free Software", and "Open Source" communities exist world wide with literally millions of developers dedicated to writing better software and documentation. Commercial software houses can not afford to hire the numbers of people necessary to apply that amount of attention to their products and therefore can not produce software of the quality and sensitivity provided by the GNU & Linux, "Free Software" and "Open Source" communities.

The LinuxCabal provides the GNU & Linux, "Free Software", and "Open Source" communities easily accessible space and facilities for meetings and presentations, seven days a week, free of charge. The LinuxCabal also sponsors the weekly Install Fests, EVERY Saturday from 15:00 to 21:00 where neophites and experts may mingle to exchange ideas, news, and solutions. Here questions and problems are brough to the fore which motivate us to stay current with changing needs and solutions.

The concept of "community" within a social structure is the driving motivation behind the LinuxCabal.

Since it is impossible for any one individual to have all of the solutions to the problems that arise, or the forsight that a problem may be inherant in a project, communities are formed and mature.

The LinuxCabal invites you to become involved, or to increase your involvement, in the world wide "Open Source" and GNU & Linux communities. Your questions, solutions and willingness to participate are the tender that is recognised here. We encourage you to form new User Groups dealing with PHP, Perl, Python, Apache, Security, Networks, ... and to use the facilities and space of the LinuxCabal, FREE of Charge.

Come to our weekly Install Fests and feel the energy.
